DONA International Certified Birth Doula
Postpartum Doula
Abortion Doula

About Me and My Work

Welcome! Thank you for considering me for your birth and postpartum support needs!

I was first introduced to doula work by one of my graduate school classmates—a former doula herself—after I inquired how I could best support members of the perinatal population before becoming a licensed professional clinical counselor (LPCC). With her encouraging words in mind, I completed my postpartum doula training with Kathrin Auger at Los Angeles Doula and my birth doula training with Ana Paula Markel at Bini Birth. I also completed an abortion companion training with Jacoba Cruz-Rodriguez at Chicago Women's Health Center. I am enamored to be a member of this empowering, life-changing profession. In addition to my work as a doula, I am pursuing my master's degree in clinical mental health counseling with the hopes of specializing in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) as well as a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) credential with a Women's Fitness Specialization (WFS) from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).

Evidence-based information suggests that having a strong support system contributes to increased birth satisfaction, which is exactly what a birth doula will provide and help establish for you. As a birth doula, I will be by your side during labor and birth, providing you and any accompanying family members with physical, emotional, and educational assistance in accordance with your personal needs and preferences, along with persistent validation, affirmation, self-advocacy tips, and an unbiased listening ear.

The postpartum period, be it the first time you've experienced it or the fifth, is one of the biggest transitions for individuals, couples, and families, which can come with a multitude of emotions and physical changes. My job as a postpartum doula, in accordance with your family's individual and/or cultural needs, is to provide birthing parents, partners, and all other members of the household with physical, emotional, and educational support in the 12 weeks following birth. This period is known as the "fourth trimester."

In a country where abortion is illegal in approximately half of the states, the role of an abortion companion can be invaluable for those who are seeking bodily autonomy or health-necessitated procedures. As an abortion doula, I will be there to support you physically, emotionally, and educationally before, during, and after an abortion procedure. Whether you are seeking reliable information on the procedures themselves, a strongly pro-choice individual to validate, affirm, or empathize with your decision, or appropriate comfort measures (or all of the above), I will be there for you.

Please contact me to discuss my services, rates, and policies in depth. I am located in West Los Angeles.

Birth services are charged as a package and postpartum services are charged at an hourly rate. Please contact me to discuss pricing.

Birth Process

First and foremost, we will conduct an interview on Zoom, which will be free of charge and last approximately an hour. Once I am hired, we will proceed with the following, all of which are included in my birth packages:

Prenatal Visits

These visits are approximately two to three hours long and will consist of discussions about your birth plan and preferences, preparation, expectations, and the roles that members of your support team will play. We will also sign the contract and go over policies. Please view my packages for information on how many prenatal visits are included in each for different price points.

Labor and Birth Support

I will go on-call for you at the 37-week mark of your pregnancy. You or a member of your support team will reach out to me when you begin experiencing signs of labor (we can discuss what they are), and I will commute to you. Depending on which stage of labor you are in, and the location you decide to give birth, we will either meet at your home or the hospital. I will accompany you for the entire labor and birth and stay an additional 2-3 hours in the immediate postpartum period.

Postpartum Visit

I will visit you during the first week after birth to assess your well-being, acclimation, and transition to parenthood. I will also answer any questions you may have about navigating the postpartum period, be it in terms of support, recovery, self-care, sleep, infant care, breast/chest-feeding, or the like. Please refer to my packages to determine how many postpartum visits you feel you will need. I will continue to be available to you over text, email, and scheduled phone calls.

Postpartum Process

This is the first step. We will conduct the interview at your home, during which we will discuss topics including (but not limited to) your estimated due date (if applicable*), desired hours, primary services needed, lifestyle and cultural preferences, and fees. There is no charge for the interview as the purpose is to determine whether I am a good fit for your family.

Prenatal Visit**

The prenatal visit takes place after we agree to work together, ideally in the last trimester of pregnancy. I will present you with a contract and we will work together to finalize plans for support following your baby's arrival. These visits are approximately two to three hours (outside of the hours listed on the contract) and are billed at my hourly rate.

Postpartum Support

For your desired amount of time in the 12-week postpartum period, I will provide your family with emotional, physical, and logistical support per your needs, preferences, schedules, and what we discussed in our initial meetings. Please refer to the "Services" section to learn about specific measures I may assist you with.

*Interviews can be conducted either before or after birth, depending on when you request support, as long as it falls within 12 weeks postpartum.

**The prenatal visit will take place if I am hired prior to your baby's birth. If you have already had your baby and I am hired after we complete the interview, we will schedule a follow-up meeting (essentially an "equivalent" to the prenatal visit) during which we will finalize all plans, sign the contract, and complete both a home tour and a nursery tour to ensure that I am familiar with your home environment prior to beginning work. This will be billed at my hourly rate.

"This was our first time using a Doula, and Alexandra was an absolute dream to work with! She was in our corner from the moment we first spoke, bringing knowledge, compassion, and positivity to the whole process. Communication had a free-flowing ease and was always immediate. Alexandra is always ready with educational resources/documents and answers questions thoroughly and thoughtfully. I would absolutely work with her again and again. Cannot recommend highly enough!"
